Meet Stomping Ground Herbals
Nicole Mattingly’s passion for tending the earth was born working alongside her great-grandmother, Rose, growing vegetables and herbs on land in the heart of Nashville. Today, guided by the knowledge passed down by Rose, Nicole tends to the very same piece of land- land that now produces the herbs for the plant magic of Stomping Ground Herbals.
After many unsatisfying years of working an office job, Nicole returned to her roots. In 2010, she began growing many plants on the same land as her great grandmother and using them to make herbal tinctures, elixirs, skincare, and teas under the name Double N Urban Farm and Apothecary. She embarked on a journey of studying herbalism under the Wise Woman tradition to further her knowledge, and in 2015 left her office job to follow her passion and pursue her farm and apothecary business full time.
Today Nicole, alongside her husband, Nick raise chickens, ducks, bees, grow nearly eighty medicinal and culinary herbs, veggies, fruit, mushrooms, and flowers with no chemicals or pesticides. These naturally grown plants are used with intention in every one of Stomping Ground Herbals’ products and the homestead’s CSH program.
Nick and Nicole started building their dream tiny apothecary in 2019 on this same land. Working off-grid and with the rhythms of the seasons, the homestead was born. Their passion is to offer fresh and dried herbs, veggies, eggs, herbal preparations, and education to inspire you to create a homestead of your own.

Social Justice
LGBTQIA+
We stand with the members of the LGBTQIA+ community. We want to make sure folx of all identities feel welcome, seen, and safe. We gladly donate skin soothing salves to folx undergoing gender affirming surgery (please email us if interested).

RACIAL JUSTICE
We stand with the Black Lives Matter Movement. We support and work for systematic change and racial justice. We use a portion of our revenue to pay reparations monthly and donate to BIPOC organizations through our monthly giving.

ENVIRONMENT
We work hard to implement a low waste lifestyle on our solar powered homestead. We donate a portion of our revenue to offsetting carbon emissions. We vow to grow the herbs for your products using only organic farming methods. If we are unable to grow a certain item for you, we always ethically and conciously wildcraft, or support a farm we know and trust.
Our facility is solar powered with a grey water system and composting toilet to try to make as little of an environmental impact as possible during production. Every aspect of our facility is off grid to try to lessen our reliance on fossil fuels.
We make it a point to cultivate at risk plants and are commited to this through the United Plant Savers Botanical Sanctuary network.
Any leftover plants from infusing oils are composted then returned to the earth to grow future plants.
All of the packaging our products come in are completely reusable. We are hoping to have a refilling program in 2023.
